Water quality and water supply problems affect two-thirds of Hungarian households. The goal of the Water Coalition is to make clean drinking water available to all the people of the country, regardless of social status and place of residence. The Water Coalition was born in the community organising program of the Civil College Foundation in cooperation with dozens of civil society organisations, trade unions and local governments in order to make the problem of drinking water supply visible to the public and decision-makers.
WATER.FUTURE.ON TIME. This was the slogan under which the Water Coalition launched its Water Week 2024 program series, which included two Water News videos and two key events. The program drew attention to issues such as network coverage, access to water and the problem of water poverty. In addition to the two central events, at the call of the coalition, 30 organisations from 28 locations participated in the program series with 37 events.
The Water Week program series started on 20 March. At the opening event held in the Magnet Community Hall, the organisers presented the professional study "Who will save the water utility service?", and the visitors could also see a photo and pipe exhibition. It was followed by a conference with municipal, professional and civil society stakeholders, without the participation of decision-makers. At the end of the event, they jointly drew up a bucket list of the coalition's demands. It was handed over on 27 March in front of the Ministry of Energy: the message was left in a bottle in a bathtub full of dirty water in front of the steps of the ministry.
