Our Common Cause - Strengthening civic and community activism in Miskolc

Hungarian society has deficits in social participation and active citizenship that weaken democratic functioning. In the absence of individuals and groups who would actively participate in public affairs, there are no potential partners or counterweights for the powers that be. 

The initiative therefore aims at strengthening participatory citizenship and community activism in the city of Miskolc. This is both an opportunity to improve the participatory system of the local government and to raise awareness in local society in general.

The project is open to all Miskolc residents and will involve those who are willing to become active, but lack the direct supportive environment necessary to take real action. And by involving civil society organisations active in public affairs, their capacities can be developed through joint work.

Involved participants can engage in joint work in a variety of ways:

1. Participation Lab: where the theoretical framework for public participation is developed.
2. Action Lab: supporting local initiatives based on the theoretical framework, both professionally and financially to the extent possible. 
3. Other workshops, training and mentoring, with different focuses but mutually reinforcing objectives.
