Chance! – Joint initiatives against Roma discrimination

CERV-F-2023-0386
BAGázs Public Benefit Organisation
Budapest

Many systematic factors contribute to infringing the rights of Roma people living in segregated settlements. With this initiative, Roma people from three settlements and civil workers together map the most common legal impairments, and formulate petitions about them with the aid of law students.

They will issue an e-learning course about these experiences for law students, lawyers and social workers concerned with Roma people. The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the main problems, their background, and to support professionals dealing with these issues with concrete petition templates. Media coverage of concrete cases may also draw the attention of the broader public to the everyday legal disadvantages experienced by settlement people.

The planned impact beyond solving concrete cases is to reduce the feeling of incapacity among the affected people and professionals.
