Housing Now! Expanding the Capacity of the Housing Agency

Housing Now! Housing Agency helps to reduce the housing crisis by managing private housing, providing affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness and housing poverty, and is a model programme for spreading the housing agency model in Hungary. The project aimed to develop the administrative and technical capacity of the Housing Agency to enable it to expand further and to develop a portfolio of services for clients who were victims of abuse. Accordingly, the project targeted people who were homeless and living in housing poverty, with a particular focus on women who were or could have been victims of abuse.
Administrative and technical capacities were supported by the creation of new jobs and the rationalisation of existing processes. A complex service model supported women victims of abuse; furthermore, an internal document for the organisation's staff included a timetable and financial background for the implementation of services. Until the start of the 2024–29 municipal term, the dissemination of the housing agency model continued, primarily but not exclusively among municipal decision-makers. A best practices manual of services for abused women was developed for other housing agencies. By the end of the project, the housing agency capacity building and new services ensured that it was able to continue to expand in a sustainable manner.
