Social participation and regeneration. From reactivity to proactivity.

The campaign aimed to initiate genuine public participation regarding the battery plant announced in Nyíregyháza in the summer of 2023, encouraging the municipality to hold public forums, listen to those affected, and enable the local community—residents themselves—to shape the city’s future.

The organisers launched an information campaign on the project’s environmental and social impacts through street outreach and online channels, and measured public awareness via a survey. They strengthened their professional capacity in the field and worked to ensure that authorities would hold an environmental public hearing. Although this was not achieved during the project period, the association spoke at a general city forum, and the deputy mayor responsible for the area pledged that a public hearing regarding the battery plant would be held in the future.

The campaign also expanded the number of volunteers and conducted community planning forums to allow local residents to develop alternative future visions through a participatory process.
