The objective of the project was to promote the social integration of Roma youth living in and around Eger, while also strengthening the volunteer base of SZETA. During the programme, 18–20 Roma students actively participated in activities that enhanced their knowledge, skills, and social engagement, while the sense of community among the organisation’s volunteers continued to grow, contributing to the sustainability of the project.
As part of the programme, the Roma youth took part in training sessions where they learned about Roma history, issues related to minority status, and the values and rights of the European Union. In addition, they developed their non-violent communication skills, enabling them to advocate more effectively for their interests. Participants shared the knowledge and experiences gained during the training sessions through a closed Facebook group, fostering continuous learning and strengthening community connections. One of the highlights of the programme was a five-day summer training course, which provided an opportunity for in-depth learning and the practical application of the acquired knowledge.
Meetings were also organised for the organisation’s volunteers to strengthen their community and further motivate them to engage in social action. These occasions focused on topics such as awareness-raising, the promotion of social inclusion, and the implementation of EU rights and values at the national level.
As a result of the programme, the Roma youth became better informed, their skills improved, and their social integration was strengthened. The project also expanded the organisation’s volunteer base, enabling it to provide support to a greater number of disadvantaged individuals. In the long term, a community network was established that promoted the practical implementation of EU values and contributed to the advancement of social equality and equal opportunities.
