Joint action against child abuse

The program focused on the victims of child abuse and the adults, parents, and professionals surrounding them. At the time, more than 110,000 vulnerable children lived in Hungary, and the number of those who did not come to the attention of child protection services was even higher. Although society condemned severe forms of child abuse, people were much more accepting of corporal punishment, and there were still many children who received no help even in cases of severe abuse. The majority of children still knew very little about children's rights, and that if they were abused in their family, they had the right and opportunity to ask for help.

During the project period, an online awareness campaign called adults' attention to the fact that children had the right to grow up in a safe environment free from abuse, and that adults had a responsibility to help children in distress. As a result of the messages delivered to the children, more children became aware that they had a right to be safe, and not only the right but also the opportunity to ask for help if they were victims of abuse or did not feel safe.

At the Blue Line Child Crisis Hotline, children's inquiries were received by trained volunteer operators under professional support. Within the framework of the program, the involvement and training of an additional 12 volunteers was realized, and thousands of children received support through the hotline. Through an online workshop series, professionals working with children were able to expand their knowledge and experience regarding child abuse, in order to better recognize children in need of help and provide them with proper support.
