The project will encourage all landscape users and stakeholders in the Eger river basin to work together to move local society towards environmentally and socially sustainable, water-retentive water and landscape management. Implementation and oversight will be taken out of the hands of a few institutions and handed over to the whole community - a step towards a comprehensive landscape contract at a later stage.
Everyone needs to know about water retention issues, because it is possible to fight climate change at family, community and municipal level - their aim is to transfer such knowledge and put it into everyday practice.
Community landscape modifications will be implemented to protect the water body and the population, but also to improve biodiversity, by creating at least 100 runoff-slowing wetlands in the upper reaches of the Eger stream.
They will target relevant local professional bodies and agencies, citizens willing to volunteer, concerned but passive citizens, external professional green organisations and the Hungarian water sector.
They hope that the cooperation will lead to sustainable and transferable landscape management. The community skills acquired will also help to address other issues. Stable collaborations between participants will be maintained - open communication, partnership.
