Still We Act – A Community Art Campaign for Protecting Children

CERV-A-2023-1198
Hungarian Association for Psychodrama
Budapest

Child protection in Hungary is grappling with systemic issues; neglectful or even abusive behaviour is present in many institutions, which can cause lifelong trauma for children. Within this system, children's right to safety is compromised, as their fate depends heavily on the functioning of the care facilities.

The initiative of the Hungarian Psychodrama Association aimed to raise awareness of this issue through artistic means, exhibitions, and related participatory art programmes. By sharing personal stories, the project sought to strengthen solidarity among those committed to the cause—whether through the cooperation of families, parents, and women, the supportive collaboration of professionals, or the involvement of school and nursery communities.

Through the example of a local women's community and creative group, the association demonstrated alternative solutions for establishing safety. They initiated a dialogue on how to exert community-led pressure on institutions and, where appropriate, how to form local-level partnerships to address systemic gaps.
