Although leaf burning is legally restricted in Hungary, local regulations still allow it, causing air pollution, health risks despite public opposition. The project’s objective was to promote a nationwide ban by influencing local governments, which was partly achieved through outreach and initial policy changes. It delivered communication to over 3,000 municipalities, along with policy recommendations, awareness materials, and community forums. The outcome included increased awareness, some municipal actions such as bans or public communication, several ongoing or planned forums. It contributed to gradual behavioral and policy change, empowering residents and local leaders to address harmful burning practices. Residents and municipalities were directly engaged, benefiting from increased knowledge, support, and opportunities to take action. Results will be sustained through ongoing forums, continued advocacy, and growing commitment of municipalities and residents beyond the project period.
