Housing Impact and Participation - Attitude Formation and Community Organization in Apartment Buildings

The aim of the initiative was to support residents of condominiums in Budapest in becoming active and democratic communities. To this end, a community organising methodology was developed, tested and disseminated. Its further aims included increasing civic engagement and supporting cooperation between people of different social backgrounds living in condominiums.
After the community organising methodology had been developed, resident workshops on various topics were held with the participation of several residential communities, after which the organisation carried out participatory action research combined with community organising in a selected condominium.
Residents, condominium managers, experts and civil society organisations took part in the cooperation. The participating residential communities, having become familiar with the methods, will in future be able to stand up for their shared interests more effectively, and through this the initiative also helped to advance the right to adequate housing.
The community organising capacity built up within the organisation will in future also be available to other condominiums, local governments, experts and civil society organisations.
