In Hungary, securing the right to housing of those living in segregated settlements is a priority and urgent task, one that is seriously jeopardised on the one hand by the legislative changes of the past decade and a half, and on the other by the ownership status based on adverse possession that has remained unsettled in the land registry for decades.
To address this problem, the initiative developed a pioneering practice and gained significant experience in cooperating with the competent authorities, judges and lawyers.
The initiative widely disseminated the experience gathered through its legal aid service across various communication channels. A particularly important achievement is that it also raised awareness of the legal aid service's significance among the active young Roma and non-Roma professionals of Baranya County, encouraging them to take part in activities of this kind.
